In the world of LEGO Ninjago, some characters deserve a presence that the official sets don’t always fully capture. While LEGO’s official designs are great for playability, I felt their take on Beatrix and her mechanized power lacked that intimidating, “monster-form” scale.
Instead of waiting for a Season 1 set to hit my desk, I decided to dive into my own scrap bins and build a custom version from the ground up. Here is a look at my Beatrix Monster Mech MOC.

The Vision: A True Empress of Imperium
The goal was simple: make Beatrix look like a legitimate threat. I wanted the mech to feel more like an extension of her “monster” persona—sharper, bulkier, and more lethal.
Key Design Features:
- The Custom Figure: Since I didn’t have the official Season 1 minifigure, I kitbashed a custom Beatrix. The white hair and stern expression perfectly capture her cold, calculating nature as she pilots the machine from the center core.
- Articulated Claw & Weaponry: The right hand features a heavy-duty power claw for crushing resistance, while the left arm is equipped with a translucent orange energy emitter, nodding to the high-tech Imperium aesthetic.
- Aggressive Geometry: I utilized spiked elements and curved “claw” pieces on the shoulders and knees to give the mech a jagged, predatory silhouette.
- The “Scrap Build” Challenge: Everything you see here was built entirely from my existing collection. Working with “scrap” forced me to get creative with SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques to get the shaping of the torso and the armored feet just right.
Why MOCs Beat Official Sets
Building this reminded me why I love the LEGO hobby. When a retail set feels “a little lacking,” it’s an invitation to innovate. By using a mix of black, gold, and dark red accents, I was able to create a color palette that feels regal yet villainous—fitting for the Empress of Imperium.
The final result is a mech that stands taller, looks meaner, and feels unique to my collection. It’s proof that you don’t need the latest sets to build something epic; you just need a good scrap bin and a bit of imagination.
